Lo Five - A Constant Source of Light
 
Location: Liverpool Cathedral

The Liverpool Cathedral has always been a place that gives me a sense of
feeling overwhelmed - especially when you look up into the tower and see
that vast space above you, which I guess is the point. I think that, even
though I’m not a religious person, I still value the space as a place for
reflection: the bigger questions about life, death, the universe and
what’s outside our limited realm of human perception. Places like this are
synonymous with and ever present for the cycles of life, which is relevant
to everybody - that’s what I wanted to reflect in my submission. There’s a
bittersweetness to becoming a parent, you get all this joy but a stronger
awareness of mortality. I used various sounds I’ve collected over the
years, my daughters heartbeat from my wife’s pregnancy scan, a recording
of her singing a nursery rhyme - I used her musical toys to create samples
for the percussive sounds on the track.
